The laws of Nigeria do not respect lives more than property and vice versa, so the life of a cow is equal with that of a human – Peter Buhari

The Jos killings are to say the least very unfortunate. My heart felt sympathy goes to the families of those who lost their loved ones.

Be that as it may, people have been writing insinuating that, the Fulani herdsmen value cows more than human beings. I want to remind such persons that, the laws of Nigeria protect lives and property. It does not protect lives or property but lives AND property. Cow is property. Simply put, the laws of Nigeria do not respect lives more than property and vice versa. Therefore, the next time you want to kill or rustle that cow, be aware that, under the Nigerian laws, equal protections are given to both the cow and you. It is not because of Buhari or APC or the Fulanis, it is the law of the land. The Nigerian Constitution, Criminal Code and Penal Code all accord equal rights to lives and property.
