STALWART of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State, Prince Peter Etareri Okorodudu, has condemned the destruction of bill boards of House of Assembly aspirant for the Uvwie constituency seat, Chief Francis Omochovwen Arhiyo by thugs suspected to be members of the opposition.
Reacting to the development, Okorodudu described the action as barbaric, uncivil and wicked, saying those who perpetrated the act have only demonstrated that Arhiyo is the most acceptable and popular choice of the people of Uvwie for the House of Assembly seat.
He advised the leadership of all political parties to call their members to order, saying, such acts were inimical to the growth and development of democracy in the country.
He said: “At this stage of our democracy in the country, elections are won and lost through the use of ballot papers on election days.
“Therefore everyone seeking political offices must be given a level playing ground by political parties and members of the communities. The people should be allowed to express themselves in choosing the representatives of their choice through the use of ballot papers.”
He advised politicians to shun all forms of violence and work towards ensuring that the forthcoming election is held in a manner that is devoid of acrimony and rancour.
