The first edition of the Ughelli North Local Government Area Urhobo language competition has kicked off. The event being organized by the newly elected Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Comrade Godwin Adode provides an opportunity for students in all public and private secondary schools in the seven kingdoms that make up the Local Government Area to test their proficiency and competence in the Urhobo language. The preliminary stages of the competition took place on the 22nd and 23rd of February 2018. At the end of the exercise eight students emerged who will represent the seven kingdoms at the finals scheduled to take place in the Assembly Hall of Government College, Ughelli on the 12th of March 2018. The event is expected to attract students, teachers, political leaders and members of the public. The Chairman, Comrade Adode explained that the competition apart from helping to rekindle the interest of the younger generation in the use of the Urhobo language as a means of cultural preservation, the event will also help in making people at the grassroots feel the impact of government which he said is a key point in the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration in Delta State. The event which will feature other side attractions according to a statement released by Moses Darah and Ogheneovo Erhabor begins at 10 am.
