More on Hon Reuben Izeze’s Bursary for Ughelli South LGA Students

In 2004, Barr. Kenneth Gbagi introduced a similar scholarship scheme for indigent students of Ughelli South LGA in higher institutions. Three slots were allocated to my Esaba community. As an undergraduate in the Delta State University, Abraka, I was seriously in need of cash and optimistic to be shortlisted as one of the lucky three. I spent the little available resources to process the form but unfortunately, the three slots were allocated amongst the organisers. The project couldn’t be sustained due largely to many unmerited recipients.

The Oninibos are lovers of education. As luck would have it again, the member representing the good people of Ughelli South at the Delta State House of Assembly,

Hon. Reuben Izeze has instituted another assistant scheme for students in form of bursary.

The significance of the bursary is not based on the amount to be awarded, but the assurance someone cares for the welfare of the students and the need for students to get Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.

In this difficult era, any public office holder who use his constituency allocation wisely should be commended.

Hon Izeze has earmarked 220 beneficiaries for the first instance in the eleven Wards of Effurun – Otor, Ekakpamre, Ewu i, Ewu ii, Ewu iii, Jeremi i, Jeremi ii, Jeremi iii, Jeremi iv, Olomu i and Olomu ii. I trust that the organisers would discharge this serious assignment equitably well to the best of their abilities in fairness and openness. The slots should be distributed accordingly to only deserving constituents so that the project would achieve the purpose for which it was instituted.
