And Chief Arhiyor Declares for DTHA
By Ajiri-Oghene J. Oreh
Since the inception of Nigerian democracy, lack of effective representation and irresponsible leadership has remained a recurrent decimal. It constitutes a major evil beclouding our democratic health. For a healthy leadership, those who make laws in any nation must be people of impressive character and conducts, who manifest redemptive vision for the growth of their nation. As a result, the kind of lawmakers Nigerians desire and are determined to vote for in 2019, are politicians who are patriotic, honest, courageous, altruistic and intellectually robust to offer effective representation at both the state and national assemblies.
It is on the foregoing dearth of responsive representation, and the urgent need to redeem Nigeria from its decrepit position, that Chief Francis Omochovwen Arhiyor, an activist, entrepreneur, public functionary, and politician has decided to step forward, after many clarion calls and wide consultations. He has decided to curb the menace of bad leadership through an effective representation of his Uvwie constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) in 2019.
Today, 2nd of January, Uvwie was thrown into celebration as Chief Arhiyor officially declared his interest to contest for Uvwie Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly.
The good Uvwie people have seen a man with educational credentials, business acumen, political and administrative experience who, for more than two decades, has been faithful to their interests and aspirations. He has empowered many, given out scholarships, interest free loans, and supported many worthy causes. Yes, Chief Arhiyor’s contributions and excellent service to his people are unparalleled and well felt. He is a rare politician who keeps company of intellectuals.
Chief Arhiyor is not one who sees politics as a means or opportunity to amass wealth. He is a politician with elegant pedigree and excellence in prudent management. He had before now, given a brilliant account of himself in many positions he held. He is currently serving his people in many public offices.
The irrepressible Arhiyor was born a day after the Nigerian Civil War ended, precisely on the 16th of June, 1970, at Effurun. An adventurous, inquisitive and prodigious child, Arhiyor’s undying love for books and education saw him attending Esedo Primary School, Effurun, where he got his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1983, seven months before the military coup of December 31 that ended the government of Alhaji Shehu Shagari and brought in General Mohammadu Buhari. He was among those who brought fame to Olomu Secondary School, Oviri-Olomu, from 1996 to 2002, the year he bagged his Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). The brilliant Arhiyor went on to acquire a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Science from the renowned Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, in 2014.
Chief Arhiyor is a man with a lot of experience. He worked briefly at NISCO Nigeria Limited (2004-2007) before going into politics with the ideal to serve and contribute to national development. However, he currently doubles as the Assistant Treasurer of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Delta State, and Chairman of its Uvwie local chapter.
Chief Arhiyor has excelled both in the public and private sectors. He has functioned in many capacities including as board member of Delta State Transport Service (Delta Line) from 2007 to 2012 and Delta State Sports Council. While functioning in these positions, Chief Arhiyor was able to contribute to the economic empowerment of his people and got many employed in the Delta Line service and other government agencies/parastatals.
At the party level, he is a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Chief Omochovwen Arhiyor is well known for his loyalty. One who has never compromised- as a political strategist, he has put in his all towards the growth of the party in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta Central Senatorial district and the entire Delta State. He was once the Youth Leader of PDP in Uvwie. Yes, he’s an ideal PDP youth leader who has organized and mobilised Urhobo ebullient youths for elections. Again, for a decade now, he has been offering patriotic leadership as National President of the Urhobo Youth Leaders Association (UYLA), and as a leading member of Delta Political Vanguard (DPV), among other political pressure groups.
What about in the business world? Chief Francis Arhiyor has done well for himself. He is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fara-Zino Nigeria Limited. He also has interests and shares in many companies.
Chief Arhiyor’s selfless service, sterling contributions to humanity and corporate social responsibility of his company have not gone unrewarded. He has been given a legion of awards and conferred with chieftaincy titles.
From this brief biographical sketch, it is crystal clear that Chief Arhiyor, the leader of ward 8 in Uvwie, is not one who sees political offices as opportunity for material acquisition but to serve. He has offered himself to render selfless service and be a reliable link between the government and his good people of Uvwie constituency.
As Chief Francis Arhiyor declared in Ward 8, he has various development programmes for his people of Uvwie constituency. According to Plato in his The Republic, “The heaviest penalty for declining to rule is to be ruled by someone inferior to yourself”. This is one of the thought provoking quotes that inspired
Chief Arhiyor to be an ideal legislator saddled with the task of offering effective representation and bringing the dividends of democracy to his people.
