The Continuity Mantra in Ethiope East and the Tyrelock Madness in Abraka in Abraka, Delta State

In the past, the Local Government Administration was the key to the Federal and State Government administrations’ actualization of the dividends of democracy to the grassroots in Nigeria. Local Council chairmen and their councilors strive to build and repair local roads, control traffic, and provide adequate parking facilities. The Councils also build and maintain parks and markets, public buildings such as community halls and waste disposal systems. The councils were also known for decent revenue generation to augment the monthly allocations from the Government. Before being elected and re-elected by the electorates, the candidates must show the passion for selfless service.
Thus, it is the good performance of leaders that is supposed to earn them a second term in office or further appointments not mere propaganda. For instance, two Udu Council Chairmen, Barr Andrew Orugbo and Hon Henry Sakpra built modern markets in Ovwian and Ekete despite the issue of zero allocation and world economic meltdown. Their performances earned them appointments as commissioners in Delta State. A councilor in the Udu legislative arm, Hon Harvest Igben earned two terms shots to represent the good people of Udu at the Delta State House of Assembly from 2003 – 2011.
Today in Ethiope East, the only visible achievement of the
Hon. Faith Majemite led administration is the introduction of taskforce in the name of tyrelock.
who were supposed to be engaged in the various Gov Ifeanyi Okowa’s skill acquisition and empowerment schemes are making life difficult for motorists in Abraka.
boys who work with the police, extort money between N1,000 to N10,000 from motorists in the University community that is begging for Government’s attention.
Whereas the ‘offence’ for which these motorists are held result from the local government’s inability to provide parking lots; a situation which clearly shows the ineptitude of the Majemite’s administration.
So it is surprising that posters of the underperformed Council Chairman who always complain of economic recession have flooded the community. For a chairman that cannot point at any tangible project as achievement, it is advised that the Chairman should renounce the posters. Let serious minded persons who have plans and vision to work vie for the position.
