DON’T BLOW THE WHISTLE YOURSELF
As a football lover, I watched a local football match in a school playing ground. As I sat down, I asked one of the boys what the scores was. With a smile, he replied: “They are leading us 3-0!” And I said, REALLY! I also said to the boy: They are beating you guys 3-0 and you don’t look discouraged! The boy asked with a puzzled look: Why should I be discouraged when the referee has not blown the final whistle? I have confidence in the team and the managers; we shall definitely overcome!
Truly, the match ended 5-4 in favour of the boy’s team! He waved at me gently, with a beautiful smile as he left. I was amazed, mouth wide open with such confidence and strong faith.
As I got back home that night, his question kept coming back to me:
“Why should I be discouraged when the referee has not blown the final whistle?”
You see, life is like a game. My brothers and sisters, why should you be discouraged when the Almighty God is your manager? Why should you be discouraged, when there is still life? Why should you be discouraged when your final whistle has not sounded?
The truth is that many people blow the final whistle themselves. But as long as there is life, nothing is impossible and it is never too late for you.
Half time is not full time and God’s calendar for your life is not man’s calendar. Don’t blow the whistle yourself.
Inventor Thomas Edison asserted, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” It’s the last step in the race that counts the most. That is where the winner is determined. That is where the rewards come. If you run every step of the race well except the last one and you stop before the finish line, then the end result will be the same as if you never ran a step.

A renown professional speaker, author and television personality, Les Brown said: “Do not accept life the way it is. Step forward and take life on. Look for a way to win, because you can! If life has hit you below the belt…so what? You are still in the game. It will take far more than that to take you out!
Step forward with the power and fierceness that you have used in the past to get through what appeared to be a hopeless situation. You still have the power, the drive and the ability to take your life in another direction. You were born to win! Step forward! Success is in your DNA. Giving up is not an option. Because you have GREATNESS within you!”
The trials and pressures of life- and how you face them often define you. Confronted by adversity, many people give up while others rise up. How do those who succeed do it? They persevere. They find the benefit to them personally comes from any trial. And they recognize that the best thing about adversity is coming out on the other side of it. There is a sweetness to overcoming your troubles and finding something good in the process, however small it may be.
In every triumph there is a lot of try. But perseverance means more than trying. It means more than working hard. Perseverance is an investment. It is willingness to bind oneself emotionally, intellectually, physically, and spiritually to an idea task until it has been completed. Perseverance demands a lot, but here is the good news: everything you give is an investment in yourself.
Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goals. My strength lives solely in my tenacity. Perseverance begins with the right attitude- an attitude of tenacity. But the desire to persevere alone isn’t enough to keep most people going when they are tired or discouraged. Perseverance is a trait that can be cultivated.
Giving up when adversity threatens can make a person BITTER. Persevering through adversity makes one BETTER.
Be encouraged! Never you give up!
