AS THE WORLD-RECORDS TREK CONTINUES
”I jumped as I heard someone
Greet me from behind
And tried very much to respond
To his endearments.
‘Ah, Mr Tortoise, good day.
We’ve all heard what you did
Yesterday and we’re proud of
Your great achievements!’
I told him in a rather
Hushed voice it was okay
And gestured he drew close,
Whispering ahead of us were
Some strange developments.
Red deer quickly understood,
Tiptoed from the path
And joined me behind the tree
As we listened and thought if we
Should retrace our movements.
”Would ram attempt to
Ambush me? … I saw an image
Moved into my line of vision
And that stalled my thinking.
Red deer and I turned
In unison to look
And red deer gestured
And whistled to the stripling
But what we got in return
Was a condescending gaze
From the passer-by
In his colourful gear –
We both were caught staring
As antelope showily raised
His collar, pushed out
His chest and his trousers
He suddenly let sagging.
