Let Nigeria be borderless by Dr. ABC

One could not help wondering at what point we began to get it wrong? Despite the “expansion” through the creation of states beginning from the regions the geographical space regarded as Nigeria has not reduced or depleted. The only sign of depletion which is not so significant was the ceding to Cameroun some parts of the Bakassi Peninsula. Not “significant” by way of geographical space, mind you. But in terms of loss of humanity, it is a heavy loss.

The lines of John Donne quickly come to mind. “If a clod be lifted from the shore into the sea, Europe is the less…..

Any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind. Therefore, do not send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.” which means the loss of a human life is not a thing to tiffle with. Again, one wonders if there have been a significant change in the atmospheric essence of the universe, especially up north-ozone layer melt down, perhaps, or if there has been a geometric increment in the birth of cattle in recent years? and of course, if a new species of the human beings who occupy the skin of Fulani’s is suddenly in existence? If the answers to the above posers are negative, as in the fact that things have remained largely the same, then, why this sudden change? This animalistic destructive spree of human beings for the purported preservation and safety of beasts? The amazing thing about these attacks are:
They are always one sided
More often than not occur without provocation on the part of victims
The victims are always of Christian religion
The attackers disappear into thin air
The grazing continues after
Both houses in Abuja remain silent, Unperturbed, Aso Rock keeps mum
There are never reprisals
Compensations never come
Nigerians in the affected areas make jokes of the incidents, etc.
Cattle grazing has been in Nigeria since Nigeria was created and at this time, the entirety of Nigeria is suffering from the presence of Fulani herdsmen. The other questions that arise are: These Fulanis, are they Nigerians? If yes when was the law which banned the possession of firearms revoked? Who supplies these arms? Why has Nobody, House members inclusive, made motions or whatever against the obvious illegal possessions of firearms by this group of people? How come they attack people who never stopped them from grazing only that they should keep off their farms? Rather than seek answers to the above questions, what do we get: Bills flying about for our lands to be handed out gratis to people who are purportedly far from us; Now, how safe could we be to have them as our next door/ Bush neighbours? There is serious doubt as to the genuineness of these attackers being decidedly herdsmen, Fulani or not! We have been living with these people for ages and there have been no complaints. They trade in all sorts of commodities including running bureau de changes all over Nigeria and Nobody bathes an eyelid. All goes well. The southerners live in the north in their numbers and they occasionally attack and kill them without reactions. Now, we all know and believe that the safest place to be is home. Presently, home is no Longer safe. We strive to encourage farm work only for this group of Marauders to deplete and frighten away the potential ones. In the light of all that has been said above, it seems safe to say that Nigeria should be made seamless, no state, no boundary, no governors of whatever and no House of this or that representing whatever. After all, no state gets any dividend of true representation from them. Instead, Let there be Mr. President and his Ministers who would run a borderless nation, holistic and one. This will, no doubt, create room for oneness: no more Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Bini, Urhobo, Isoko, Ijaw, Ikwerre, Idoma, etc. and all the other ethnic nations. One can therefore live, work, graze, die and be buried wherever one likes. Nobody should lay claim to those discriminating human foibles. Let there be one nation called Nigeria or let a name be formed for it, a language be evolved for there to be harmony!

If this cannot work, then the so called governors had better stir up and in the manner of El Rufai make laws covering citizenships or stateship of whoever is resident in their state. Let there be visas for crossing the border of another state. The Eastern governors particularly should wake up. In every situation, their people become the proverbial ground that must receive a cut in the hunt for snake. If the snake escapes, the ground gets a cut, if the snake is killed, the ground must get a cut.
Must we eat cow meat or Beef? Must we nor learn how to plant tomatoes, potatoes, water melon, etc.? Can’t we learn to make do with what we have?

Not so long ago, Ijaw youths protested in their own land over what rightfully belongs to them and the dogs of war were let loose on them. The Igbos hold peaceful protest over Biafra, they get killed; they stay in their shops, they get killed, they stay in their homes, they get massacred! How long, how far do you push a people before they act or react?
What manner of docility is this? Where are the blacksmiths and the technologists that fashioned Ogbunigwe? If you cannot invent or create for attack, what is wrong in self-defense? You die, you watch your children and wives, your old ones decapitated in the most gruesome manner before your eyes in the time of peace and ” Haba” “Mba nu!”

This is not the Igbo land or the Igbo people that I know! No political statement, no protest of any sort, nothing……. Silence.
When a man comes into my house and defecates on the floor, what do I do? Do I Shut my eyes? I will take a stick and break his head”. That’s what a man does……”

What are we afraid of and for how long? One life and when it’s gone, what next? We need all manner of weapons in the East, for self protection. No need to look up to a nation of no people to protect you!
Rise up and raise your eyes towards the heavens! You are from the EAST, BE WISE!

And all the governor should come up with after the massacre of an entire community was fasting and prayer! Even the Jews fight in defence of their own! In the churches, they bomb us, in the markets, they attack us; in our homes; they kill us. The solution: be prayer warriors! All silent on the Western Front! Ohaneze Kwanu? Fa-fa-foul! Not a mouse stirring! Is this Igbo people or a new species of them?
